Children's Sunday School Teachers
Two years ago, after 18 months of deliberation, the Strategic Mapping Team determined that Children's Ministries would be a priority ministry on which Pollard intended to focus. Since that time, there has been no net increase in the number of Pollard members who make themselves available for our children. With the exception of VBS, where adult volunteerism is exceptional, other children's educational ministries have been largely neglected.
When the church adopted the report of the SMT, it was with the intent of having the entire church take responsibility for our outreach to children. This important charge cannot be left exclusively for the parents; we are all called to lend our support in any way that we can.
The greatest need presently is adult presence in Children's Sunday School. The COM intends to concentrate efforts to remedy the problem. There is a plan approved by the Children's Council on March 17 to ask adult groups (Sunday School classes, music groups, UMW, etc.) to adopt a Children's Sunday School class to assist, even teach, as the needs of that class becomes apparent.
Leading the way, the Friendship Class has agreed to make 2 or 3 of its members on hand each Sunday in the 4 year-old class. There is a genuine hope for the 3 and 4 year-olds to split; they now meet together as one class because of need for another adult leader. The Friendship Class has decided to do this on a monthly rotation, so adults do not "burn out" and children can enjoy some continuity of involved "grown-ups."
The dream is ultimately to have all Children's Sunday School classes assisted by adult members of other groups, or adults who are not involved elsewhere on Sunday mornings and sense that God is calling them to this very important ministry.
Please pray about the prospect of GOD CALLING YOU!
